Old Town of Osier

Grading crews reached Osier July 31,1880. Track laying was completed on the line and open for business between Denver and Osier on October  10, 1880.

Osier began as a large construction camp, contined as a tiny trading center for sheepherders and ranches and ended as an abandoned section house when D&RGW operations came to a close. In the winter Osier was an important operating facility for coal and water, and provided shelter and communications for the crest of trains and snow-removal outfits.

Thanks to the books Ticket to Toltec & The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad-The Historic Preservation Study for their infomation on the history of the Osier Depot.

HISTORY

Osier Creek Ranch has been in the Mondragon family for 90 years. Obtained by Manguel and Viola Mondragon who did sheep and cattle herding on the ranch. Manguel had a vision for the ranch to be shared with the public. His vision was for people to experience the beauty nature intended, and create a place where people could socialize as they did in the old west. He showed his children that this was a place of peace and joy where his family would remember good times. Manuel could not see his vision come true within his lifetime. Now his son Larry and grandson Lawrence are making his dream come to life.
